“If you want the girl next door, go next door.”
Of all of the stars in Hollywood, few were just as big in life as they were on the screen. Crawford both swooned and screamed for audiences the world over, though she may be better remembered for her supposed reign of terror she had on her children than her extensive motion picture career. She began in the silents, and made a quick transition to talkies as her fame increased. Starring in the Best Picture winner Grand Hotel only increased her stock.
Roles in The Women (1939) and Mildred Pierce (1945) cemented her in Golden Age Hollywood history, and a career resurgence in horror films alongside Bette Davis in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962) brought her the admiration of a new era of fans. Her last film was the truly stunning Trog in 1970. She passed away in 1977.
